Constellations

Created to celebrate both Christmas and the tenth anniversary of the Disseny Hub, this installation, a tree of lights, symbolises all the design disciplines present at the DHub.

The installation, created by Goula Figuera Studio, is made up of nearly half a hundred illuminated spheres supported by aluminium rods up to four metres tall. Placed at different heights, the frosted glass spheres project glimmers on their surroundings, creating an ethereal, ever-shifting effect. Each sphere symbolises the different projects and partnerships at the DHub over the past ten years: a constellation of connections among design, architecture, art and innovation. There is a small-scale replica of Constellations at the Plaça de les Glòries entrance.

Goula Figuera is a product design and creative direction studio in Barcelona, founded in 2012 by Pablo Figuera (Madrid, 1988) and Álvaro Goula (Barcelona, 1989). Both partners are graduates in Design from the Elisava School and combine their work as designers with the direction of the GOFI brand and university teaching. In 2020 editor and studio win the ADI-FAD Gold Delta award with the Fa Mini luminaire.

‘Constellations’ meets the sustainability criteria at DHub and uses energy-efficient LED technology to illuminate the spheres, in addition to materials such as aluminium, wood and glass, which can be reused or recycled once the installation is taken down.
