Anatomies of the Material Agriculture

Pop-up

Beyond their ecological role, plants have a deep relationship with agriculture and the textile industry. These elements intersect, shaping ecosystems, but also the future of fibres and design, which must address challenges such as soil depletion, excessive use of water or pollution through innovative agricultural methods and ecological materials.

Through four student installations, this exhibition showcases the connection between waste materials, circular principles, community engagement, and new technologies, highlighting the role of innovation and education in shaping a greener future in both the fashion industry and agriculture.

Visitors will discover how the students approach recycling techniques, aim to shift the narrative on material circularity, and drive the design industry toward a more responsible and forward-thinking future.

Four research projects arising from the participation of Barbara Rakovská, Emma Picanyol, Julija Karas and Nanditha Nair in the Fabricademy – Textile and Technology Academy program of Fab Lab Barcelona IAAC, in which Robert Thompson, MATERFAD’s scientific director, provided expert guidance through ‘Knowledge Capsules‘—mentoring sessions dedicated to exploring sustainable materials and innovative techniques.

Organized by MATERFAD and Fab Lab Barcelona IAAC.
