Dishes of the Day

Through the TAPAS exhibition (on at the Barcelona Design Museum till 21 May) comes the Dishes of the Day project, which brings ceramic, design and fine food together to offer us results that are both creative and useful. This fusion, which is being whipped up in the main restaurants around the country, is gradually making its way to every table that wishes to add a distinctive note to its dishes.

This joint effort by designers and chefs is a new opening that has been growing in recent years in sectors such as the ceramic industry, which is currently enjoying a creative upswing thanks to new ceramists, professionals who have had to start afresh and adapt to the needs of a highly demanding sector that requires innovation, creativity, quality and versatility. A challenge for a new generation of professionals setting the trends of the 21st century.

Dishes of the Day is a small sample of the work being produced today in the workshops of some the country’s ceramists. Chefs such as Albert Adrià, Jordi Vilà, Jordi Cruz, Nandu Jubany and Quique Dacosta have sought out these creators to personalise their chinaware and to add a touch of distinction and individuality to their tables, thereby ensuring they are in keeping with their own creativity in the food.
