Images of Fashion. Study gallery
From 19 March to 20 June 2010, the Museu del Disseny de Barcelona (formerly the DHUB-Disseny Hub Barcelona) is hosting the study gallery, Fashion Images, curated by Sílvia Ventosa. This gallery is part of the Fashion Images event launched in January 2010 with the exhibition Outumuro. LOOKS. Twenty Years Photographing Fashion. These two expositional types allow us to analyse and research two methods of fashion construction and representation – prints and photography.
The study gallery Fashion Images features a selection of 216 prints, chosen from a total of 10,000 in the Museu Tèxtil i d’Indumentària de Barcelona collection. Displayed alongside this study gallery, devoted to prints, is a review of how methods of depicting fashion have evolved, from the earliest prints, through the so-called fashion dolls, up to the advent of photography, television and the new online media channels.
The study galleries are a public space for observing, studying and reflecting on museum collections. There, different objects are arranged by types and presented in an inquiry area, a space alongside the temporary exhibition, the documentation area and the museum reserves, but different from these and distinct in character. The study galleries allow visitors to discover the endowment and to see how the Disseny Hub Barcelona collections grow.
