5 design museums for Holy Week
Over the Easter period, the Museu del Disseny will be open during its normal hours of 10.00 am to 8.00 pm, including Good Friday and Easter Monday. But if you are one of those people who like travelling and taking the opportunity to get away, why not visit some of our favourite design museums?
Alfaro Hofmann Collection
You do not have to go far to find amazing design objects. In Godella, Valencia, you can visit a very particular collection: the collector Andrés Alfaro Hofmann is responsible for bringing together more than 5,000 pieces, particularly electrical appliances.
The Danish Louisiana
Just a few weeks ago, some items by Picasso from the Museum’s collection arrived at Louisiana, 45 minutes from Copenhagen. The reason for this was the exhibition «Picasso Ceramics», one of the largest ceramic exhibitions to honour the artist from Malaga, with more than 160 objects.
One for Belgian comics
Brussels is not only the capital of the European Union, but also the world of comics. Whether you’re a fan of illustrated comic strips or not, a visit to the Museum of Comic Art is essential. And if you also consider yourself a «tintinophile» (a fan of Tintin), you have the Hergé Museum, just a few kilometres away, dedicated to the reporter and his faithful dog.
Vitra Design Museum
Frank Ghery and the Vitra furniture brand came together in 1989 to create a building to show the design collection. Whether you're passionate about architecture or are interested in industrial design and product design, this space near Basel shouldn’t be missed.
One for English design
A little over a year ago, a new space was opened in west London, and has already become a benchmark for architecture and museography. The guiding spirit of its collections, however, has remained unchanged since 1989: to put the spotlight on design and designers. A visit to the city of the Thames is unmissable!
