Balenciaga, appearing at the Metropolitan of New York
Three pieces from the Museu del Disseny fashion collection will be part of the «Heavenly bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination» exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York (The MET). The exhibition can be seen from 10th May across several of the Met’s exhibition spaces.
The exhibition explores the dialogue between fashion and religion through 150 objects, related to liturgical clothing, fabrics, jewels, paintings and objects by 20th and 21st century designers held in public and private collections in Europe and the United States. However, the exhibition will contribute to highlighting how the Catholic identity is currently perceived.
The clothing items from the Museu del Disseny are three dresses by Cristóbal Balenciaga from 1949, 1951 and 1957, worked in silk, cotton and Moroccan crepe, among other materials. The pieces can be visited at "The Cloisters" space until 7th October this year.
