The Chinese designer Guo Pei visits the Museu del Disseny
Guo Pei, the most prestigious Chinese designer in the world, today visited the Museu del Disseny (15th February). She comes to Barcelona for the first time with the intention of seeing the outstanding creations of Cristóbal Balenciaga. Considered by many as pieces of art, Balenciaga’s creations are part of the Fashion Collection of the Museu del Disseny. Some of them can be seen in the permanent exposition Dressing the Body. Silhouettes and fashion (1550-2015).
Despite her 20 years experience in the haute couture industry, Pei became known in the West in 2015 after dressing Rihanna for the Met Gala, which inaugurated the exhibition China: Through the Looking Glass where some of the designer’s works were shown. The dress for the singer, which took 60,000 hours to create in her Beijing workshop, had a great media impact, and even the fashion editor Anna Wintour described it as a "dress to not forget".
On July of the same year, Guo Pei did her first solitary exposition at Musée des Arts Décoratifs of Paris and was invited to become an invited member at the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, the most important international organ of the haute couture world. A year later, she debuted at the Paris Haute Couture Week, becoming also one of the most important 100 persons in the world by the TIME magazine. If you would like to appreciate Balenciaga’s creations by yourself, remember you can visit the Museu if you haven’t done it yet.
