Designing the new Graphic Design space
In 2014, a new presentation and a new museum display for the new Museu del Disseny were installed in Plaça de les Glòries. The new space brought together the collections of the Museum of Decorative Arts, the Museum of Ceramics, the Textile and Clothing Museum and the Graphic Arts Museum. However, for the space dedicated to graphic design, there was still much to do. This is why, in 2018, we at the Museum are working on a new permanent graphic design exhibition.
The exhibition, which previously covered the period from the end of the second world war to the 1980s under the title «El disseny gràfic: d'ofici a professió (1940-1980)», (Graphic design: from craft to profession (1940-1980), will now extend up until 2003. It will show the transformations in the Catalan and Spanish design fields through the creativity of new generations of graphic designers.
This January, under the curatorship of the design historian Raquel Pelta, we held two sessions with a number of designers from the country in order to define the key aspects of this period. Design personalities such as Anna Zelig, Toni Miserachs, Peret, Albert Isern, Sonsoles Llorens, Rosa Lazaro, Pere Àlvaro (Bis Dixit), Raquel Pelta, Claret Serrahima, Àlex Gifreu, Andreu Balius and Mariscal have contributed their thoughts on the construction of the new space.
The graphic design exhibition will open its doors in June, and for this reason it will be closed to the public on 22nd February, from 8th to 11th March and from 8th April.
