The "Distinction" travelling exhibition opens in Getaria

Understanding the meaning and function of fashion photography. This is the aim of the travelling exhibition "Distinction. A century of fashion photography", which from this week can be seen in the Foundation’s Cristobal Valenciaga Museoa, in Getaria (Gipuzkoa) until 27th January.

The exhibition, has the fashion photography collection of the Museu del Disseny as its starting point, with a selection of 107 photographs by 37 artists from 1903 to 2013, and includes a total of 10 fashion publications from the collections of the Documentation Centre.

Highlights include, among others, the works of Juan Gyenes, Oriol Maspons, Manel Esclusa, María Espeus, Manuel Outumuro, Bèla Adler & Salvador Fresneda, Txema Yeste, Eugenio Recuenco and Sergi Jasanada.

As a curiosity, it should be noted that, as explained by Curator, Juan Naranjo, the title of the exhibition "Distinction" refers both to the elegance of fashion and also to the difference (distinction) between the first magazines featuring fashion photographs and current digital media.

Sílvia Ventosa, the head of the Department of Textile and Fashion of the Museu del Disseny was present for the opening in Getaria, on 9th October.
