#MuseumWeek 2018 in 7 Tweets

The event that combines museums and social networks, Museum Week, has surpassed itself this year. The initiative, co-organised by UNESCO, which invites cultural institutions and museums to share their heritage and which has been going for five years, has achieved hundreds of tweets on Twitter. But it’s not just the number that’s important; it’s also the themes and the interactions. Here we present the 7 things we shared with you on Twitter this week.

#WomenMW

The stand-out designer this year has been Barcelona's Asunción Bastida, of international renown who specialised in haute couture. We hold her personal archive at the Museu del Disseny, with patterns, sketches and photographs.

#CityMW

In talking about the city and its link with the museum, without doubt Plaça de les Glòries has been our urban companion. Seeing the images and remembering the great changes of 2014 with the new Museu del Disseny, has made a great impression on us.

#HeritageMW

The ‘author-centred’ arts are our hidden heritage for this year. In particular, artists such as Miró, Picasso and Dalí worked actively with artisans, ceramists, jewellers or enamellers to carry out their works.

#ProfessionsMW

What's peculiar to the job of the designer? What challenges must be faced daily? How can design improve and advance society? All this was explained to us by Òscar Guayabero, designer and a collaborator of the Museum.

#KidsMW

The year the new Museu del Disseny was launched was when the programme for families and schools started to take shape. Over the last year, we have already doubled the number of schools that visit our exhibitions, thanks to the work of experts such as Carmina Borbonet.

#NatureMW

We couldn’t leave out Modernisme and, in this #MuseumWeek, we wanted to highlight its link with nature through the cradle created in Austria by Jacob & Josef Khon in the late nineteenth century.

#DifferenceMW

Finally, an offering of the present and future: the connections and differences between design and society. This is what the current temporary exhibition of the Museu del Disseny, Design Does, sets out through 15 questions and answers.
