We reuses 80% of the materials of the ‘Knock on Wood!’ exhibition
As a result of the Knock on Wood! exhibition, Disseny Hub Barcelona design has carried out a series of actions that are in line with its firm commitment to responsible and environmentally friendly management, along with its commitment to sustainability, both on an environmental, social and economic scale.
Thus, when the exhibition was disassembled, some of the materials that had been used were collected with the aim of giving them a second life, with 80% of these materials being able to be reused. Specifically, all the beehive cardboard panels that had been used for visuals in the exhibition were donated to the La Mercè Secondary School in the Marina neighbourhood of Barcelona in order to create scenes, sets and other decorative elements within the framework of its TV and Audio-visual studies. In addition, various materials from the display have been recycled for upcoming exhibitions. The glass displays are an example of this, which will be used for the Picasso’s Will exhibition, as well as the tables and wall panels, which will continue with their useful life in the next “The Best Design of the Year” exhibition.
Actions such as these, which seek to give a second life to materials that would otherwise have been thrown away, are framed in the Disseny Hub Barcelona commitment to sustainability, which has been awarded a series of seals which recognise it as one of the city’s facilities that is committed to responsible and environmentally friendly management, and which applies the highest demand criteria in environmental matters. In this regard, the Disseny Hub recently received the Biosphere Certificate thanks to a series of good practices which align with the seventeen United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) such as its commitment to biodiversity, environmental quality, reasonable use of resources as well as responsibility towards then planet, among others. This seal is added to the other ones obtained previously, such as the A energy rating certificate, the environmental quality guarantee seal and its membership of the Barcelona + Sostenible Network.
