Winners of FAD, ADG Laus & ADI Awards
Once again, Barcelona becomes the epicentre of design and architecture with the prestigious FAD, ADG Laus, and ADI Awards, organised by the FAD associations (Fomento de las Artes y el Diseño). These events not only recognize talent in their respective disciplines but also serve as a platform to showcase the most inspiring and cutting-edge projects of the moment. From architecture and interior design to graphic and industrial design, these ceremonies bring together professionals from all fields to celebrate and promote creativity and sustainability.
The FAD Awards gala celebrated excellence and innovation in architecture and interior design. Casa 1736 and DH Palencia were awarded the FAD Architecture Prize ex aequo for their unique architectural solutions. Casa 1736, designed by Harquitectes, excels in its relationship with light and air, while DH Palencia, by FRPO Rodriguez & Oriol, is praised for integrating energy and pedagogical criteria.
In the Interior Design category, Casa Nube and Gimaguas Barcelona also received ex aequo awards. Casa Nube, by Javier Jiménez Iniesta (Studio Animal), transforms a small flat into a spacious, luminous space. Gimaguas Barcelona, designed by TEST and Guillermo Santomà Bagaria, uses materials like concrete fabric to create a character-filled space.
Praça e posto turismo Piadao and Alfacs were awarded ex aequo in the City and Landscape category. Branco Del Rio Arquitectos' Portuguese project creates a circular space for village inhabitants, while Alfacs, by Bajet Giramé and JAAS, enhances a natural seafront area, improving accessibility and social interaction.
In the Ephemeral Interventions category, Lost Forest and La Construcción de un país shared the prize. Lost Forest, a TAK! Festival of Urban Architecture pavilion, impressed with its conceptual proposal. La Construcción de un país, by Miquel Mariné Núñez and Pol Esteve Castelló, innovatively used common materials to create noble designs.
A highlight was the Extraordinary Lifetime Achievement Award, honouring Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza for his significant contributions to architecture.
The ADG Laus Night celebrated graphic design with over 1,400 participating projects. Winners included the Diada Nacional de Catalunya campaign, the Sitges Festival promotional video, and the Valencia Fallas campaign, all receiving Golden Laus awards.
The Laus of Honour went to Enric Satué, recognizing his lasting impact on Spanish graphic design, including his work on posters for the Barcelona '92 Olympic Games and Festes de la Mercè.
ADG Laus Awards categories include Editorial and Art Direction, Packaging, Branding, Graphic Communication and Advertising, Audiovisual, Digital, and Students. Bronze, Silver, and Gold Laus are awarded within each category, with Gold Laus winners eligible for a Grand Laus. This year, Bakoom studio stood out with two Golds for the Latent Festival of Terrassa. The 50 anys book of Mobles 114, designed by Albert Romagosa studio, was also recognized for excellence in editorial and art direction.
The ADI Awards highlighted sustainability and innovation in industrial design. Roca Sanitarios' toilet with an integrated tank and X1 Wind's floating wind system received the Delta de Oro for excellence in design and functionality. Other notable winners included Stark Future's electric cross-country motorbike and Cerámica Ferrés' ceramic construction system.
The Concéntrico festival in Logroño and the publication "Design is good for health" by Ramón Úbeda received the ADI Cultura de Oro. Montesa was honoured with the Delta Trayectoria for its continuous contribution to design since 1962.
In the ADI Medals for Students category, projects focused on health and wellbeing stood out, including a neonatal incubator, a splint for treating hip dysplasia in babies, and an accessible object lifter for the elderly.
The project "HERE WE ARE! Women in design. 1900 - Today", exhibited at DHub from October 2023 to January 2024, won the ADI Culture Silver Award in the Events category and the ADI Culture Opinion Award, recognizing its advocacy for the role, challenges, and successes of women in design.
